The Analysis of Domestic Wastewater Quality Using Principal Component Analysis Technique: A Case Study of The Canal in the Vientiane Area
Keywords:
Community Wastewater, PCA, Organic PollutantAbstract
This study evaluates the physical and chemical quality of domestic wastewater using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) with nine key indicators across 7 villages: DongPaSak, PhonKham, SaWang, PhonPhaNao, HongKae, Fai, and NongNieng. The indicators include temperature, pH, electrical conductivity (EC), turbidity, dissolved oxygen (DO), chemical oxygen demand (CODCr), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total phosphorus (T-P), and total nitrogen (T-N). Data were collected over 18 months, from October 2022 to April 2024.
The analysis reveals that Principal Component 1 (PC1) explains the highest variance (54.91%), primarily associated with CODCr, BOD, T-P, and turbidity, indicating the presence of organic pollutants. Principal Component 2 (PC2) (22.62%) and Principal Component 3 (PC3) (14.27%) describe biological processes and environmental factors related to pH, DO, BOD, T-P, and T-N. A comparative analysis of water sources indicates that DongPaSak Village exhibits the highest pollution levels in PC1, PhonKham Village has the lowest contamination in PC3, and HongKae Village faces issues with dissolved oxygen levels in PC2
